History

The beginning was an unassuming two-man development laboratory in Munich. The two company founders Dr. Lothar Rohde and Dr. Hermann Schwarz became acquainted during their physics studies in Jena. As both of them were greatly interested in RF measurements, they kept in touch after receiving their doctorates from Professor Esau of the physico-technical institute of Jena university in 1931.

Besides their normal work, the two physicists continued to experiment with electric discharges in gases, and in 1932 built their first joint measuring instrument, a precision frequency meter for wavelengths of 6 to 3600 m. This made it possible for the first time to carry out accurate measurements on a newly developed dielectric material for RF applications from the Hescho-Isolatoren-Gesellschaft.
